CSC Systems Committee - looking for new members

Greetings CSC members, Are you curious about what makes the CSC's infrastructure tick? Do you want to gain experience in Linux server operations and administration? Would you like to help improve the experience of CSC users and test out new technologies? The Systems Committee (syscom) is looking for new members to help administer and upgrade the CSC's fleet of servers and office terminals. This is a volunteer position with no fixed commitment of hours and no regular meetings. Members of syscom are responsible for the day-to-day management and maintenance of the CSC's server infrastructure and office terminals, and are supervised by the systems administrator. Typical syscom work includes installing and upgrading software packages on servers and workstations, diagnosing and fixing issues with servers, and responding to questions from CSC members about using our computer systems. Experience with the Linux command line is great; experience with installing Linux yourself or working with Linux servers is a big asset; but even if you don't have any experience in these areas but are interested in learning about how it's done, I encourage you to apply! If you are interested in joining, please send an email to me personally (mtrberzi AT csclub DOT uwaterloo DOT ca) and include your CSC username, program and year of study, and any relevant experience you might have with Linux or Linux server administration. I will follow up with you in a few days to schedule an introductory meeting on campus (if you are not on campus this term or cannot attend, we can make other arrangements). We covered some of the basics such as add, commit, diff, GitHub basics, etc, as well as some more advanced topics such as branching, merging, merge conflicts, and feature branch workflow. Git 101 Workshop this weekend

Hi all, The CS Club is hosting a Git 101 workshop this Saturday (Sept 21) and Saturday (Sept 22) at 12 PM in QNC 1502. The workshop spans two days with the first day covering Git basics such as add, commit, diff, log, GitHub Basics, etc. The second workshop will cover advanced topics like branching, merging, merge conflicts, feature branch workflow, etc. If you are familiar with Git basics, feel free to only attend the second workshop. Mozilla OSSN + Git September

Hi all, Our Computer Science Club is now a member of Mozilla's OSSN <https://ossn.club/> (Open Source Student Network). OSSN is a network of university students and clubs who believe that open source is the engine that powers innovation. Fall 2019 Elections

Greetings programmers, The Computer Science Club will be holding elections for fall 2019 term on Thursday, September 12th in MC Comfy (MC 3001) at 19:00. During the meeting, the president, vice-president, treasurer and assistant vice-president (formerly secretary) will be elected, the sysadmin will be ratified, and the librarian and office manager will be appointed. If you'd like to run for any of these positions or nominate someone, you can write your name on the whiteboard in the CSC office (MC 3036/3037) or send me (Rajat) an email at cro(a)csclub.uwaterloo.ca. Every effort will be made to note down whiteboard nominations, but it is highly recommended to send me an email in addition to writing on the whiteboard.
