The Computer Science Club is hosting an interview preparation workshop to help you get some practice for any upcoming co-op interviews you might have. We'll:
- talk about the different kinds of programming jobs you can apply and interview for
- present some general advice for tech interviews
- have sessions in parallel for software engineering, frontend engineering (mobile/web), and DevOps interviews
If you're in 2B or below, you'll probably find this event helpful!
(anyone is welcome to attend, however)
Date: Wednesday, Feb 7 2018
Time: 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
Venue: QNC 1502
If you're interested, we also have a Facebook event<https://www.facebook.com/events/143763462972041/> for the workshop.
See you there!
Hello CSC member,
Per our Constitution, I'm emailing you to tell you that nominations for the
election tomorrow are closed and Arshia Mufti (a2mufti) is the only nominee
for secretary. We'll also be amending the constitution tomorrow.
The Constitution doesn't tell me to tell you that we're having dinner and
coffee at the code party tomorrow, or that it's going to be a good time
hanging out with the great members in our club (like you!)
See you tomorrow!
P.S. it's 6pm in STC 0040 if you can make it.

Hi all,
Code Party 0 has been booked for 6PM, Thursday, January 25, in STC 0040.
We will have a projector for the event so you can show off your cool
side project if you want. But don't worry, it's not a hackathon.
We will hold a General Meeting at this event to elect a Secretary
and possibly amend our constitution. Currently, the only nominee for
Secretary is Arshia Mufti. Nominations can be submitted in-person to
Patrick Melanson, our President, or to cro(a)csclub.uwaterloo.ca.
Dr. Andrew Morton will be giving a brief talk on CS 493/CS 494, also
known "fourth-year design project for CS". The calendar description
for 493 is attached below.
Students work in teams on substantial open-ended computer science
problems as part of the CS 493/494 course sequence. Lectures
describe project management fundamentals and ethical and legal
issues in computing. Students form teams, select projects, define
project goals, perform risk assessment, establish a project
plan, and develop a prototype. Possible project topics can
include development of software systems, analysis of extensions
to existing systems across the field, and experimental computer
science.[Offered: F] Prereq: CS 341, 350; Computer Science students
only. Not open to Software Engineering students.
Hope you see you all there in STC 0040!

Hi all,
The Computer Science Club will be hosting its first event, Code Party 0, next Thursday, January 25. Although the room booking has not been finalized yet, the event is expected to start at 6:00 PM and run until around 11:00 PM. Code Party is an event where you can come and socialize with other members and work on any project you want, including schoolwork and side projects. There will be food. Expect a future email that will pin down the location and time.
In addition to the party, we will be holding another general meeting for special elections and amendments to our constitution.
At the special elections, we will be electing a Secretary. Nominations will close Wednesday, January 24 at 6:00 PM. You can submit nominations to cro(a)csclub.uwaterloo.ca <mailto:cro@csclub.uwaterloo.ca>, or in-person to Patrick Melanson, our President. Currently, only Arshia Mufti (a2mufti) has been nominated for the position.
Our constitutional amendments are minor and mainly serve to clarify what should have always been the case. In short, the changes are:
During each election, if the position has no listed nominees, the CRO will take nominations from the floor. Any present, eligible member can be nominated.
Restrict the count of quorum to full members, ie. MathSoc social members.
Update the Code of Conduct to refer to relevant UWaterloo policies where appropriate.
This is only an overview of the changes. The officially proposed changes can be found at the following links.
https://csclub.uwaterloo.ca/~pj2melan/csc/about/constitution-amendments <https://csclub.uwaterloo.ca/~pj2melan/csc/about/constitution-amendments>
https://csclub.uwaterloo.ca/~pj2melan/csc/about/code-of-conduct-amendments <https://csclub.uwaterloo.ca/~pj2melan/csc/about/code-of-conduct-amendments>
We will be discussing and potentially amending these changes at the meeting. Also feel free to bring up any comments to exec(a)csclub.uwaterloo.ca <mailto:exec@csclub.uwaterloo.ca>.
Finally, at some point during the event we will have a brief presentation from Dr. Andrew Morton on the new CS Project Course.
Hope to see you there,
Charlie Wang

Hello everyone,
The nominations period for the Winter 2018 CSC elections have ended. The
elections will be held tomorrow, on Monday, January 15th at 5:00pm in
the MC Comfy Lounge (MC 3001). This election will start no earlier than
24 hours from the time stamp of this email. You may still express
interest in appointed positions, either via email to
cro(a)csclub.uwaterloo.ca or in person at the elections. Coffee and
Timbits will be served at the elections.
See https://csclub.uwaterloo.ca/about/constitution for a description of
positions and the election procedure.
All those who have accepted nominations or expressed interest
in the appointed positions are kindly asked to attend the elections.
Upon any extraordinary circumstances, you are asked to instead send a
short written blurb to cro(a)csclub.uwaterloo.ca that explains the
circumstance and why you should still be considered for the position.
It will be read by me, or someone appointed by me, to the membership
present at the elections.
You can find the list of nominations at the bottom of this email. Do
note, although it is possible that no voting will actually take place
due to many of the elected positions being seated via acclamation, we
still need at least 15 members to attend in order to achieve quorum and
ratify our new executive members.
If you attend elections, you must be a full member of the CSC in order
to vote or be elected. Per our consitution, full membership are those
who have paid their membership fees for the term and are MathSoc
Social/Voting Members. If you are a Math undergrad student or on a
official co-op term and have not refunded your fees, you are a MathSoc
Social/Voting member. You may also pay MathSoc in their office to
become a Social member.
If you can't attend the election, you may vote remotely: please send a
message with the subject "Winter 2018 Absentee Votes Enclosed" to
<cro(a)csclub.uwaterloo.ca> using either your @csclub.uwaterloo.ca or
@edu.uwaterloo.ca address, and for each position, give a list of
candidates you approve of. Your votes will be counted in accordance to
our constitution: https://csclub.uwaterloo.ca/about/constitution. *Do
NOT reply* to this message with your votes, they will be revealed to
all current exec members and will not be counted. I will reply to all
absentee votes acknowledging receipt.
Finally, I have nominated myself to the position of Secretary
due to it being unfilled. Since I am currently CRO and have expressed
interest in being the Systems Administrator, I will give the membership
during the election some time to voice objections to my appointment as
Secretary (as will such a period be given for all positions). If any
valid objections are voiced, as per section 4.7 of our constitution, I
will step down from the secretary nomination.
Thanks,
Jordan Pryde

Hello everyone,
The Computer Science Club will be holding elections for the Winter 2018
