Hello everyone, Firstly; *What is happening? *Hardware Installation & Upgrades in Cloud 2.0 (Proxmox)'s main nodes. The servers; Teriyaki, Tahini, and Sorbitol will be shut down for a period for the hardware to be installed. *When is this happening? *May 20th, 1pm EDT to 3pm EDT is the expected time frame. Services may be online earlier *How does this affect the CSC Community? *A few members/services (Matrix, Club Websites, etc) are housed on these servers and will be down for the duration. Hello CSC Members, The Executive Council of CSC is initiated an amendment of the Constitution and Code of Conduct in March and has received extensive feedback from members, past executives, as well as external bodies which we work with. The Executive would like to extend our sincere appreciation for your efforts in improving CSC. The draft has now been finalized and available to view on Gitea as well as HackMD. Hello Computer Science Club members! The Executive Council of CSC is calling a General Meeting on Thursday, May 14th, at 6:00PM EDT (UTC-4) at STC 0060. You may attend in-person or virtually via the Stage Channel on our Discord server (csclub.ca/discord) <https://csclub.ca/discord>. It will be held jointly with the S26 election. The amendment vote will take place first. In March, the Executive Council initiated an amendment of the Constitution and Code of Conduct. After more than 28 days of discussion, with many helpful inputs, comments, suggestions, we have iterated on the initial proposal. The executive council would now like to move to a vote by the members. The election for the Spring 2026 term will be held in-person and virtually on Thursday, May 14th, at 6:00PM EDT (UTC-4) at STC 0060 after the General Meeting. Virtual attendees can join the Stage Channel on our Discord server. The President, Vice-President, Assistant Vice-President, and Treasurer will be elected whilst the Systems Administrator will be appointed by the new executives and ratified by vote at the election. The election will follow procedures outlined in the current constitution as to not be affected by the outcome of the constitution amendment vote. Please check the updates below regarding our cloud service and upcoming events for the next term. *SUNSETTING CLOUDSTACK* Our CloudStack service will be sunset and discontinued on January 7th, because maintaining it has become increasingly complex and costly. We've decided to move to another platform and are currently developing the tooling required to use it as a cloudstack replacement. VM creation is now disabled. All existing users will soon receive another email with details on how to backup or migrate. In addition, we are working on a Kubernetes replacement, which is expected to be functional by January 2026. *ELECTIONS* The elections for Winter 2026 are anticipated to be held within the first two weeks of January, pending room bookings. *EVENTS FOR WINTER 2026* As of now, these are the planned Events, and the months in which they will occur: January: Resume Review, Beginning of Term, Unix 101, CSC 888 February: Unix 101, Rising Star, CSC 888, Unix 101 March: After Hours, Prof Talk, CSC 888, Alt-tab, Trivia, Bonfire Quick explanation of events: Resume Review: Have your resume looked over by others, if you'd like to review other people's resumes, send an email to exec(a)csclub.uwaterloo.ca. Beginning of term: Social get together of CSC members. Unix 101: Short tutorial on using Unix-like systems via a terminal. CSC 888: Student led paper reading group focused on Computer Graphics. After Hours: Organized small-group discussions on student related topics about mental health. Prof Talk: A professor gives a talk on their particular field of interest. Server Maintenance + General Updates

Greeting, members! # System Maintenance This is a notification to inform you of scheduled maintenance of **ALL** CSC general-use servers and services to facilitate hardware upgrade for CSC's storage cluster. ## When? Thu Oct 16 8:00 PM until Sun Oct 19 8:00 PM It's likely that the switchover will conclude sooner than Oct 19, but since this is one of the largest infrastructure upgrades we've done in the past decade we want to be safe with our estimation. We will provide service recovery notice via Email and Discord announcements if the upgrade went smoothly and partial services (like our beloved HFCS) are restored. ## Why? All CSC systems will be taken offline to allow us to switch home directory hosting to our new filer (generation 3 at this point!). All CSC systems (including mails, general-use servers and web hosting) will be unavailble for the duration of our maintenance window. Make sure to save your work, and plan ahead to use a different machine during that time. # General Updates ## Matrix Server We now run our own Matrix Server! The homeserver is csclub.uwaterloo.ca, your watiam is your username, and the CSC Space should be public. ## Events Projects Program will be running on October 28th from 7 to 9pm during the series of events you can gain hands on experience working with a team on a project together, and potentially compete for a prize at the end of it! Hello everyone, About a week ago on July 24th our President, Dundee Zhang stepped down from their role as Club President. We sincerely thank Dundee for their leadership, dedication, and for the overal positive impact they've made during their time with us. We wish them all the best in their future endeavors. Seeing as it's the end of the term, we decided to not run another election, and I'll be stepping in as Acting President for the rest of this term. Hello All, This is a notification to inform you of unscheduled downtime for the CSC Cloud (https://cloud.csclub.uwaterloo.ca) due to hardware failure. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding as we work to resolve this issue. Downtime Details: Duration: Until the beginning of the Spring term Affected Services: - CSC Cloud VMs (not accessible) - Cloudstack panel (not accessible / inoperable) Additional Information: Users who have recently activated their account or created VMs may encounter login issues or be unable to access the Cloudstack panel, even if it becomes temporarily available. Constitutional Amendment, Sysadmin Ratification, BOT date, and much more!

Hello, The vote for the constitutional amendment will be delayed as our Beginning-of-Term event has been moved to Wednesday, January 29th, 2025. It will be held at STC 0060, 7:00pm. Discussion on the amendment is still open on our Discord server (https://csclub.ca/discord) in the #constitution-amendments channel. The changes will be finalized by January 22nd, 2025, 7pm. Due to low participation and time conflicts at election, the Sysadmin for W25 was not ratified. At the BOT event on January 29th, the elected executives will appoint and ratify the Sysadmin for this semester. The BOT date is stated above. There will be a variety of activities such as; would-you-rather, squirt, and/or the limbo challenge. Come by to have a fun time and eat some great food! In addition, earlier in the week MathSoc is running a Mock Interviews, and they're looking for volunteer Mock Interviews. If you'd like to volunteer as a Mock Interviewer, contact Kareem, the MathSoc VPA this term to participate! You'll also receive free food if you volunteer at this event! Also, Alt-Tab will be making a return this term! Right now we're in the early stages of planning Alt-tab, but we will be running it this term! Alt-tab is an event where anyone can come up and present a 10-20 min presentation on any topic they'd like. In the past we've had topics such as; PXE Dream Servers, Desmos for Fun and for Profit, Python is Compiled, and so much more! We suggest preparing any topics you'd like to present now, as they normally take some time to make, and practice. In addition CSC plans on providing UNIX tutorial in supplement to the UW course curriculum, as well as giving an introduction for the general audience. If you are experienced with the subject, please reach out to Sourojeet to help out with it! (s23adhik(a)csclub.uwaterloo.ca) Projects Program, headed by our community representatives is underway! Students will have the opportunity to make meaningful side projects to sharpen their skill and put it on their resume! CSC W25 Election and Constitutional Amendment Vote Update

Hello, As a reminder, the Winter 2025 Election will be held on Monday, January 13th, 2025 at 7:00 PM ET, scheduled to end at 9:00 PM ET. The location will be DC 1302 and it will also be held virtually in our Discord (https://discord.gg/Acm29mJA?event=1326735119871901796) If you would like to run for any of the available positions (President, Vice-President, Assistant Vice-President, and Treasurer), you may still do so by emailing cro(a)csclub.uwaterloo.ca, submitting your nomination in-person to the CRO (Iris Liao), or writing your name clearly on the whiteboard in the CSC office (MC 3036/3037). We will reach out to nominees to obtain their platforms. The deadline for submitting a nomination is Saturday, January 11th, 2025 at 7:00 PM ET. If you cannot attend either in-person or online, you may email cro(a)csclub.uwaterloo.ca to request an absentee ballot. All candidates and voters must be CSC members.
