Greetings, programs! Fall 2019 elections have concluded. Mozilla OSSN + Git September

Hi all, Our Computer Science Club is now a member of Mozilla's OSSN <https://ossn.club/> (Open Source Student Network). OSSN is a network of university students and clubs who believe that open source is the engine that powers innovation. As a part of the network, we get a lot of benefits: * All CSC members can connect with other club members of participating clubs <https://ossn.club/clubs> using the OSSN slack * There is a jobs and internships board * The fixme app <https://fixme.ossn.club> lets people find actively maintained open source projects To get the most of it, sign up on https://ossn.club and join our club <https://ossn.club/clubs/15>. We are also organizing Git September <https://events.mozilla.org/ossngitseptember>, as it will be highly beneficial for first year students and beginners for contributing to open source projects, and participating in Hacktoberfest. Benefits of participating in Git September: * Understand Git (almost certainly required in a software development job) * Make your first pull request * Receive cool stickers * Prepare for Hacktoberfest We are planning the first of the two git workshops on Saturday, September 21, and the second one on Sunday, September 22. We will be covering Git basics such as add, commit, diff, GitHub basics, etc for the first one. Fall 2019 Elections

Greetings programmers, The Computer Science Club will be holding elections for fall 2019 term on Thursday, September 12th in MC Comfy (MC 3001) at 19:00. During the meeting, the president, vice-president, treasurer and assistant vice-president (formerly secretary) will be elected, the sysadmin will be ratified, and the librarian and office manager will be appointed. If you'd like to run for any of these positions or nominate someone, you can write your name on the whiteboard in the CSC office (MC 3036/3037) or send me (Rajat) an email at cro(a)csclub.uwaterloo.ca. Every effort will be made to note down whiteboard nominations, but it is highly recommended to send me an email in addition to writing on the whiteboard. You can also deposit nominations in the CSC mailbox in MathSoc or present them to me in-person. Nominations will close at 18:00 on Wednesday, September 11th. CSC Server Downtime August 17-18

Hi all, There will be a power outage on campus from 7:00 am until 9:00 pm on Sunday, August 18th (EDT). To prepare for this outage, all Computer Science Club servers will be down starting at 11:00 PM on Saturday, August 17th. This includes web hosting, CSC Cloud, email, and mirror. Please make sure you save all of your work before then, and we also recommend backing up your files just in case. After the power comes back, some servers may remain unavailable for a few minutes as they boot up. If any issues arise, an update email will be sent with further information. We apologize for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, we were not able to arrange for a backup generator to keep our servers up. Hi everyone! Join CSC and WiCS on July 18th for Alt-Tab, a lightning tech talk series presented by students! Alt-Tab consists of 15 minute talks about anything related to tech. They can be about cool new features, a fun project you made or really anything that you are excited about. If you're passionate about a technical topic, and interested in public speaking, apply by filling out the form below.
