Hello CSC Members, The Executive Council of CSC is initiated an amendment of the Constitution and Code of Conduct in March and has received extensive feedback from members, past executives, as well as external bodies which we work with. The Executive would like to extend our sincere appreciation for your efforts in improving CSC. The draft has now been finalized and available to view on Gitea as well as HackMD. A summary of changes is also available to see. Computer Science Club Spring 2026 Election and General Meeting Call

Hello Computer Science Club members! The Executive Council of CSC is calling a General Meeting on Thursday, May 14th, at 6:00PM EDT (UTC-4) at STC 0060. You may attend in-person or virtually via the Stage Channel on our Discord server (csclub.ca/discord) <https://csclub.ca/discord>. It will be held jointly with the S26 election. The amendment vote will take place first. In March, the Executive Council initiated an amendment of the Constitution and Code of Conduct. After more than 28 days of discussion, with many helpful inputs, comments, suggestions, we have iterated on the initial proposal. The executive council would now like to move to a vote by the members. The election for the Spring 2026 term will be held in-person and virtually on Thursday, May 14th, at 6:00PM EDT (UTC-4) at STC 0060 after the General Meeting. Virtual attendees can join the Stage Channel on our Discord server. The President, Vice-President, Assistant Vice-President, and Treasurer will be elected whilst the Systems Administrator will be appointed by the new executives and ratified by vote at the election. The election will follow procedures outlined in the current constitution as to not be affected by the outcome of the constitution amendment vote. If you wish to nominate yourself or anyone else for any of these positions, please do so via one of the following methods: 1. Send an email to cro(a)csclub.uwaterloo.ca, 2. Present your nomination in-person to the CRO (Rui Huang), or 3. Write your name on the whiteboard in the CSC office (MC 3036/3037). Nominations will close on Wednesday, May 13th, 2026, at 6PM EDT (UTC-4). The CRO will reach out to nominees for their platform. Platforms will be available on the nominee-platform-s26 discord channel and send out via Email after the nomination period ends. If you are unable to attend the elections live (in-person or virtually), you may email cro(a)csclub.uwaterloo.ca by Wednesday, May 13th, 2026, at 6:00 PM EDT (UTC-4) to request an absentee ballot. [IMPORTANT] Cloudstack sunsetting, Elections, Events for Winter 2026

Hello Everyone, Hope you had a great Christmas! Please check the updates below regarding our cloud service and upcoming events for the next term. *SUNSETTING CLOUDSTACK* Our CloudStack service will be sunset and discontinued on January 7th, because maintaining it has become increasingly complex and costly. We've decided to move to another platform and are currently developing the tooling required to use it as a cloudstack replacement. VM creation is now disabled. All existing users will soon receive another email with details on how to backup or migrate. In addition, we are working on a Kubernetes replacement, which is expected to be functional by January 2026. *ELECTIONS* The elections for Winter 2026 are anticipated to be held within the first two weeks of January, pending room bookings. *EVENTS FOR WINTER 2026* As of now, these are the planned Events, and the months in which they will occur: January: Resume Review, Beginning of Term, Unix 101, CSC 888 February: Unix 101, Rising Star, CSC 888, Unix 101 March: After Hours, Prof Talk, CSC 888, Alt-tab, Trivia, Bonfire Quick explanation of events: Resume Review: Have your resume looked over by others, if you'd like to review other people's resumes, send an email to exec(a)csclub.uwaterloo.ca. Beginning of term: Social get together of CSC members. Unix 101: Short tutorial on using Unix-like systems via a terminal. CSC 888: Student led paper reading group focused on Computer Graphics. Rising Star: Graduate students sharing their research and experience as a graduate student in replacement of SCS's Rising Star. After Hours: Organized small-group discussions on student related topics about mental health. Prof Talk: A professor gives a talk on their particular field of interest. Alt-Tab: A series of talks given by students for students on topics related to Computer Science. Trivia: Trivia night, mainly on CS. Bonfire: An end-of-term social event. Server Maintenance + General Updates

Greeting, members! # System Maintenance This is a notification to inform you of scheduled maintenance of **ALL** CSC general-use servers and services to facilitate hardware upgrade for CSC's storage cluster. ## When? Thu Oct 16 8:00 PM until Sun Oct 19 8:00 PM It's likely that the switchover will conclude sooner than Oct 19, but since this is one of the largest infrastructure upgrades we've done in the past decade we want to be safe with our estimation. We will provide service recovery notice via Email and Discord announcements if the upgrade went smoothly and partial services (like our beloved HFCS) are restored. ## Why? All CSC systems will be taken offline to allow us to switch home directory hosting to our new filer (generation 3 at this point!). All CSC systems (including mails, general-use servers and web hosting) will be unavailble for the duration of our maintenance window. Make sure to save your work, and plan ahead to use a different machine during that time. # General Updates ## Matrix Server We now run our own Matrix Server! The homeserver is csclub.uwaterloo.ca, your watiam is your username, and the CSC Space should be public. ## Events Projects Program will be running on October 28th from 7 to 9pm during the series of events you can gain hands on experience working with a team on a project together, and potentially compete for a prize at the end of it!
