Hi all,
Syscom is sunsetting ZNC in *one week* due to it no longer being
maintained (the last commits were in 2020) and using JQuery v1, which is
also no longer being maintained. znc.csclub.uwaterloo.ca will be taken
down around November 7th, 2022.
If you would like IRC message persistence, you can:
- Use chat.csclub.uwaterloo.ca
- Spawn a tmux/screen session on a general-use machine and use your
preferred commandline IRC client in that session.
Additionally, we would like to gauge interest in hosting a CSC Matrix
server. Please fill out the following survey if you would like us to
host one for CSC use:
https://files.csclub.uwaterloo.ca/apps/forms/s/QgnX3r4De3Hg9KYZdsf6qJPA
Please email syscom(a)csclub.uwaterloo.ca if you have any questions or concerns.

syscom is pleased to announce the release of two new services: CSC Files
and CSC Links.
CSC Files is our new Nextcloud instance accessible at
https://files.csclub.uwaterloo.ca through CSC's Keycloak SSO. It's
basically self-hosted Google Drive, and every member has 50GB of storage
available to them. The following notable non-default Nextcloud apps are
currently installed (subject to change):
- Audio/Video Players, PDF viewers, etc.
- Collabora office (with CODE server, self-hosted GSuite/MS Office in
the browser)
- Cospend (self-hosted Splitwise, a cost-sharing app for friend groups)
- Extract (extract zip files)
- Forms (self-hosted Google/Microsoft Forms)
- Full text search (for files)
- Google integration (for migration from Google Drive)
- ShareRenamer (custom share URLs)
- Transfer/NCDownloader (allows downloading videos, torrents and other
files on the internet directly to your CSC Files account without having
to download to a local computer and then re-upload it)
NOTE: usage of this app (and all of CSC Files) is still covered by the
Machine Usage Agreement, you may not do anything illegal with it.
If you need more storage or would like another app installed, please
email a proposal including a legitimate reason to
syscom(a)csclub.uwaterloo.ca and we will consider your request.
CSC Links is our new Shlink instance, a self-hosted URL shortener.
Creating/managing shortlinks is currently limited to execs, but may
change in the future. Official CSC shortlinks will now be exclusively
served from the domain csclub.ca (i.e. https://csclub.ca/discord)

Hi all,
The CSC Executive is updating our Machine Usage Agreement, which will go
into effect on 18 July 2022. The updates are as follows:
- A note was added that CSC Cloud resources fall under the same policies
as the rest of CSC's machines and network.
- A note was added that the Systems Committee may delete CSC Cloud
resources when their CSC account expires.
- A directive was added that all club reps read the Wiki page on Club
Hosting when they become a club rep and then at least once a term for
notices on that page.
- MFCF was replaced with CSCF (when the previous 2007 version was
published, CSC had relations with MFCF instead of CSCF, which may not
even have existed at the time. CSC now has relations with CSCF more than MFCF.)
- Various grammatical errors were corrected.
The exact wording changes can be found in this pull request:
https://git.csclub.uwaterloo.ca/www/www-new/pulls/473/files
Please email the executive at exec(a)csclub.uwaterloo.ca if you have any
questions or concerns.

Hi all,
All CSC machines will have their software updated (which requires a
reboot), with the exception of sorbitol and neotame (which have already
been upgraded), at 6pm EST on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 (this coming
Wednesday). General-use machines will be offline for a few minutes, and
Cloud machines (i.e. CSC Cloud VMs) *may* go offline as well (we'll try
our best to keep them up, but no guarantees). Since sorbitol and neotame
will not be rebooted, we recommend you move any services you do not want
to be disrupted to these machines.
We will send a `wall` warning message to all logged-in users on affected
general-use machines at 5pm EST, before the upgrade begins. We apologize
for any inconveniences this may cause. If you have any questions or
concerns, please contact the Systems Committee at:
syscom(a)csclub.uwaterloo.ca.
