Greetings, members!
I am pleased to invite you to the CSC's first two events of the term
occurring this upcoming week!
UNIX 101
---
New to the Unix computing environment? If you seek an introduction, look no
further. We will be holding a series of tutorials on using Unix, beginning
with Unix 101 in MC 3004 on Thursday, September 29 at 4:00 pm. Topics that
will be covered include basic interaction with the shell and more advanced
topics such as scripting and job control, the file system, and …
[View More]using the
secure shell protocol.
If you're already familiar with these topics, don't hesitate to come to Unix
102 to learn about documents, editing, and other related tasks, and watch
out for Unix 103, 104, and 201 that will cover power tools and authoring
software on Unix in depth later in the term.
CODE PARTY 1
---
Join us in the Comfy Lounge (MC 3001) on Friday, September 30 for a night of
code and electronic music! Our theme for the first code party of the term
will be an introduction to collaborative development, where we will present
several ideas for small projects to work on for the inexperienced. Feel free
to also hack on your personal projects, contribute to open source software,
or just work on your homework.
Caffeinated beverages and edibles will be available for your hacking
pleasure! The festivities will begin at 7:00 pm and continue into the night.
Feel free to come out at any time for as long as you like, and make sure you
bring your laptop!
For anyone interested in helping out, let the Program Committee know by
sending an email to progcom(a)csclub.uwaterloo.ca.
Hope to see you there!

CSC-INDUSTRY
---
This is a new mailing list established for industry opportunities and
events. The CSC is often approached by industry representatives who offer
information on current events and employment opportunities, and past
practice has been to refer them to the uw.csc newsgroup for posting. We feel
that this isn't sufficient for our interested members, and have created a
new mailing list, csc-industry. It is a moderated, opt-in mailing list for
the purpose of informing members of industry opportunities, including:
- job opportunities
- industry events (including information and recruiting sessions)
- employer-sponsored workshops
For information on csc-industry, including posting guidelines, see
https://wiki.csclub.uwaterloo.ca/Csc-industry
To subscribe to csc-industry, visit
http://csclub.uwaterloo.ca/mailman/listinfo/csc-industry
For more information on our updated procedures regarding how we will
circulate information on industry opportunities, see
https://wiki.csclub.uwaterloo.ca/Industry_Opportunities
If you are interested, please subscribe as we will be directing industry
representatives to begin posting to the list within the next week. If you
have any questions or concerns, please direct them to
exec(a)csclub.uwaterloo.ca and the executive would be happy to address them.
