Hello All,
I am interested in hiring on a part time contract basis (~10 hours per week) a PHP/Java developer. This position is for an immediate start and would continue for several months. I am offering a wage of between $15 and $20/hour dependent on experience.
The job would require working remotely and for the most part independently however I am based in the Waterloo area (I am also a student at the University of Waterloo) and you would need to be available during whatever hours you set yourself (very flexible here) .
Any candidate MUST have experience developing applications in core PHP and Javascript (without frameworks), but would ideally have experience with jQuery, Yii and the development of API's. Commercial experience is not absolutely required - but would be preferable, and you must be able to show examples of your work and/or provide commercial references.
An additional bonus would be some experience with developing Java applications (both server and client side) and any experience with the SMPP protocol.
Preferably you would be available for interviewing this week - with a start date of ASAP.
Please forward any questions and resumes to znewsham(a)uwaterloo.ca
Thanks
Zack Newsham
Hi CSC-Industry List,
Sign-ups have started for Imagine Cup 2014, Microsoft’s premier student technology competition, where Microsoft challenges students to use their imagination and passion to create a technology solution to a real problem.
This year‚ our proud national sponsor Intel will award each member of the three winning Canadian teams with one of the latest 2–in–1 touch–enabled PCs. One of the teams will also win a trip to the Microsoft headquarters in Seattle‚ Washington for the Imagine Cup World Finals‚ to compete for the coveted Imagine Cup trophy and $50‚000 grand prize!
Last year, Team Sano from the University of Calgary won the KFC Russia Award for building an interactive system using the Kinect that keeps track of and monitors people’s health indicators while they are heavily using the computer. Pretty cool, huh?

To Whom this May Concern,
As per Elana's suggestion, I wanted to share with you an exciting
opportunity for UWaterloo students.
My name is Emily Luk and I'm currently a student at the University of
Toronto and the Toronto Director of the Founder Project.
I'm reaching out to you now because I have an exciting opportunity for
VeloCity students. We are currently hiring student VC's to join our team.
The Founder Project is a student run VC fund investing and empowering
student entrepreneurs and recently had a successful launch in Toronto.
Both the National Post and TechVibes covered our launch to Toronto and
we're rapidly gaining traction. After our Montreal competition (which led
to the creation of 160 startups) one of our top startups was featured in
the National Post (article below) and is currently in negotiations for
$500k in seed funding. They are just one of numerous startups in
negotiations for over $400k in funding each, all of which were found
through our competition.
We were hoping that you would aid us in extending this opportunity to your
students through notifying students on your mailing list. Would this be
possible? The email we are hoping to have sent is below.
Thank you very much for your assistance.
Sincerely,
Emily Luk
Toronto Director
Founder Project
-----------------------------------------------------------
The email would be as follows:
Do you want to join a team of passionate individuals who want to fuel
Canadian entrepreneurship?
Are you interested in the world of *startups*?
Do you have* entrepreneurial experience*, or are you an aspiring
entrepreneur?
Are you a *designer *or a *developer*?
Do you know what it means to *hustle*?
*We’re out to change student entrepreneurship on a global scale.*
Our mission is to establish a vibrant student startup ecosystem amongst the
student body.
The Founder Project is a student run VC fund investing and empowering
student entrepreneurs. After our Montreal competition, numerous of our
startups in negotiations for over $400k in funding each, all of which were
found through our competition.
*We are at the heart of the Canadian entrepreneurship ecosystem*.
Over the last eight months we’ve contributed to the creation of over 160
student companies. A handful of those companies have received venture
financing from major Canadian venture capital firms, and we’ve seen
students take positions at high-growth startups.
Things are heating up here at TheFounderProject and we are taking things to
the next level.
If you would like to join us, we are currently hiring.
*Apply here: http://tinyurl.com/ozlanpv*

*Applications are due at midnight on October 18th.*
