-------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: [exec] Environmental evidence + AI hackathon Date: Thu, 10 Sep 2026 19:41:28 +0000 From: Tim Alamenciak <tim.a(a)uwaterloo.ca> To: exec <exec(a)csclub.uwaterloo.ca> Hello - I'm reaching out to share information on a hackathon we are hosting for University of Waterloo students. Would you be able to share this with anyone who may be interested? I've attached an image you are welcome to share. Here is a blurb: *Join Evidence Jam 2026 — Turn Ecological Knowledge into AI-Powered Insight* Evidence Jam 2026 (/Causapalooza!/) is a weekend hackathon at the University of Waterloo's DRAGEN Lab, November 13–16, where teams use AI to turn ecology literature into structured, practitioner-ready causal knowledge. We're recruiting software developers, ML engineers, restoration ecologists, UX/UI designers, data scientists, and philosophers — interdisciplinary teams of 2–4 are strongly encouraged and prioritized in selection. Prizes include the Gold Raccoon awards (Dell hardware, with a _Dell Pro Max workstation with GB10_ <mailto:https://www.dell.com/en-ca/shop/dell-desktops-workstations/dell-pro-…> for first place), a Green Raccoon sustainability award for the most energy efficient solutions, and the collaborator-voted Most Valuable Possum for best collaborator. Featuring judges and mentors from the World Wildlife Fund, Nature Conservancy of Canada, Conservation Halton, and more. Beyond the hardware, this is a chance to compress a years-long literature synthesis into one weekend, with real ecological data, GPU compute, and mentors on hand to help you ship something a restoration practitioner could actually use. Create open-source software in a collaborative setting, with great food and prizes! Applications close Friday, October 9 — apply with your team or solo at _https://evidencejam.tim-a.ca_ <https://evidencejam.tim-a.ca/>. Teams must contain at least one current UW student. There is no cost to participate and food will be provided. *Tim Alamenciak * /Postdoctoral Fellow, //Bennett Lab/ <https://carleton.ca/bennett-lab/>/, Carleton University/ /Research Fellow, //DRAGEN Lab/ <https://www.dragenlab.ca/>/ | Adjunct Associate Professor, //School of Environment, Resources and Sustainability/ <https://uwaterloo.ca/environment-resources-and-sustainability/>/ @ University of Waterloo/ OrcidID: https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1296-2528 <https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1296-2528> Book a time to chat or come for tea <https://outlook.office.com/bookwithme/user/91eacb4a13124ef5be51aca59b87571d…>

If you’re looking to meet founders, investors, builders, and operators in the Waterloo tech community, we have something a little different for you. We recently hosted *Relationship Status: Pre Series B*, our intentionally unconventional take on startup networking. Well, the sequel is here. For Waterloo Tech Week, we’re taking the idea one step further and turning it into a party, with intentions. *Relationship Status: Pre Series B. Can’t Stop. Won’t Stop. Party.* 📍 RARE Nightclub & Events Centre, Waterloo 📅 Tuesday, September 15 ⏰ 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM This is*not your typical corporate event.* * * No panels. No PowerPoints. No formal networking sessions. Just music, drinks, good people, and a room full of founders, investors, operators, builders, and students from across the Waterloo innovation ecosystem. Think of it as a chance to meet the people building the companies, investing in the next generation of ideas, and shaping the local tech community, without the usual conference room setting. You might meet someone who gives you your next career lead. You might find a mentor, a collaborator, a future employer, or simply make some great connections. Or you might just have a good night. Register here: https://luma.com/4cnf0vqb And please share the invitation with your friends and student community. The more people who show up, the more interesting the room becomes. See you at RARE! 🚀 Northview Law

UWHPC Outreach Promotion
by Job opportunities and other messages in industry 31 Aug '26

31 Aug '26

Hello, I’m James, the president of the new SDC team UWHPC (UWaterloo High Performance Computing). The team builds software for high-performance computing and works in areas such as scientific computing, machine learning infrastructure, compilers, and more. I had talked to dbeef on discord about getting a promotional message in the #official-outreach channel. I have also CC’d my co-president, Karl. If this is possible, the message we would want is as follows: ————————————————————————————————————————————— UW High Performance Computing (UWHPC) is looking for new members this upcoming term! We’re looking for students interested in high-performing code. Applications include a short form and a coding assessment in C++. Our next project will involve ML, so expect to use Triton. We’re a small team, so members get hands-on experience and meaningful ownership of our projects. We started as a group of friends who genuinely enjoy HPC and developing things together, and we want to keep that culture as we grow. Applications are now open and will stay open until September 18. Apply: https://docs.uwhpc.com/onboarding/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/uw.hpc/ | X: https://x.com/uw_hpc | Discord: https://discord.gg/Q54uuaWvhA | Website: https://www.uwhpc.com ————————————————————————————————————————————— (embeds can be removed) Sincerely, James Redekopp
