Pattern Recognition and Games Project

Job Description: We are looking for a programmer interested in working part-time on web-based data visualization software. The position will involve working with existing open-source javascript and jquery plugins that facilitate the organization of video games research. You will need to become familiar enough with these plugins to create a single web-based implementation before moving on to the next plug-in. Knowledge in javascript and jquery, as well as an interest in data visualization and pattern recognition, is an asset. About The Project: The Pattern Recognition And Games project (PRAGmatic) utilizes open-source, web-based data visualization tools to facilitate the study of video games. We have no preferred method of visualization. Instead, our content is the distribution of new tools to increase the level of interaction scholars have with the available data. The aim of PRAGmatic is to expose under-explored areas within games studies and foster the recognition of emergent trends in scholarship. What most people don’t know is that Apple doesn’t actually provide any endpoints for third-parties to integrate with. In this talk, we’ll explain the low-level binary code injection techniques we used on Mac OS X to get the Finder to include Dropbox in the toolbar, sidebar, context menu, and over each file icon. Hi everyone, Microsoft is organizing the world’s first worldwide hackathon for Windows – WOWZAPP 2012. This event will run in dozens of countries around the globe – all on the one weekend – November 9-11 allowing developers and designers in the world to come together with one goal – to have fun, network and learn and to build apps and games for Windows. Microsoft is aiming to land this event in the Guinness book of World records as the largest event of its kind. WOWZAPP 2012 will also be held at the University of Waterloo! This is a great opportunity for you to build some applications for Windows 8 and get into a fresh new market with a guaranteed huge audience when there is still little competition. You will be part of a record breaking event and earn lots of prizes. You don’t want to miss this chance. In order to facilitate this event, a tutorial session will be held on the 25th October in DC 1350 from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. This session will teach you how to develop applications on Windows 8 and get you prepared for the hackathon. We will create some simple projects that you will be able to expand afterwards. To register for the tutorial session sign up at Windows 8 App Development Tutorial. Ideally, please have your laptop setup with Windows 8 and Visual Studio 2012 already for this session. You can download both of them for free from DreamSpark. Hi There - I lead recruiting at Addepar. We are a growing start-up based in Mountain View, Ca and have 3 all-star engineers from Waterloo on our engineering team. Addepar is fixing the infrastructure and analysis tools in finance. The way data is transmitted in the financial world is fundamentally broken (a lot of important data still only flows through paper statements), which means people can't understand their exposures, are vulnerable to fraud's like Madoff, and often pay huge fees for mediocre results.
