Today's Virtual Workplaces and How the School of CS Can Help You Excel: Prof. Robin Cohen and PhD grad student Liam Hebert

Stay ahead of workplace trends and help shape the future of learning! Join us for a discussion on the future of virtual workplaces, featuring insights from a speaker with experience at companies like Google. Learn about: - Key skills needed for success in virtual work environments - Details and student feedback on a recent fully online AI graduate course at uWaterloo - Opportunities for more interactive, discussion-based online learning within BCS courses Date: February 10th at 6 PM Location: Online (the Zoom meeting link will be sent in our Discord Server: https://linktr.ee/uwcsclub) Event Summary: The purpose of this event is to provide insight into today's virtual workplaces, beginning with personal reflection from someone who has had internships at places like Google, commenting on how technology can be used to support meaningful collaboration with others across the globe and how employees provided with the chance to work remotely can be successful. We will discuss as well the skillsets that will be important in order to perform well in those environments. This will be followed by some details on a recently run completely-online graduate course on AI in uWaterloo's Cheriton School of CS and the feedback received from students about the value of this experience. We will then explore enabling more opportunities for online synchronous teaching within the Bachelor of Computer Science program here, specifically discussing the potential for some valued learning to emerge from two courses in our undergrad program that are less lecture-based and are more discussion-oriented. The event will serve both to educate about important current workplace trends and to gauge student interest in additional learning opportunities.
