Computer Science Club 2022

Greetings to all members of the UW Computer Science Club! We hope your spring term is going smoothly, whether you are going through a co-op term or studying on campus (Hope your midterms went well!). Our goal as a club is to make sure that your spring term is memorable. We aim to run events and encourage students to connect and socialize, increase technical and academic interest with workshops and talks, and provide a safe academic learning and growth environment.

Upcoming Events This Week

Potluck, Play, and Projects!

Have a tech 💻 initiative you’ve been wanting to come to life WHILE socializing over food 🥪 and games 🎲?

👍 We got you! We’re hosting our first ever ideas ”POTLUCK” event, and would love to have you there!

🍀 Unlike the mainstream potluck that we all know of, your contribution to this event will NOT be food.

Instead, we ask that you attend with an idea 💡 you’ve been thinking about and would like to put action to. Best part is, we’re encouraging you to explore this concept of yours with the presence of like-minded friends, so we can all ideate together!

🙅🏻‍♀️ Fret not if you don’t have one in mind. With everyone’s unique skill sets, we are confident that you’ll have something to bring to the table. 💚

🗓 Join us at 7.30-9 PM on July 4 at the Black and Gold room in SLC, and bond with others while playing your favorite board game. This is a chance for you to meet industry people, and potential project partners!

We’re giving ANYONE the chance to speak their minds 🗣 and shed light on their ideas. If you’d like to have a 3 minute spotlight on your idea to be brought up, simply indicate your interest in doing so in the google form  when signing up. See you then! 🥳

More events are coming...

There are more events coming in later July, such as Afterhours, Capture The Flag contest, and more! Some events got postponed such as AWS workshop and Time Travel Debugger event, and we are still talking with the speakers to set up another date for those events. More details including the date and the location are going to come in the near future, so make sure you're following our IG or our discord server for updates!

Our June Recap

CSC Movie night

🎬 The CSC Soiree movie night turned out to be a successful event, helping the students de-stress before the start of the midterm week.

✨ This event took place on June 10th, from 7:00 PM until 10:00 PM at AL113.

📣 Later on, there was a small social afterwards, allowing the CSC members to meet and connect. Thank you to everyone who showed up!

CxC Summit - ML Edition

📣 CSC's first Clubs x Companies Summit is now over. This was an event that helped students learn more about Machine Learning and network with some UW tech clubs and prestigious companies!

💻 This weeklong online learnathon included beginner-friendly workshops and networking events. Participants tackled different ML challenges created by the clubs and companies, ranging from binary classification to sequential image prediction. There were prizes too!

❗Didn’t get a chance to join the CxC Summit? Check out the link below for UW Data Science Club‘s ML workshops and the CxC Summit challenges to work on at your own pace!

Code party

💻 The code party gave CSC members a chance to hang out, chill, work on side-projects, and complete course works and assignments. We hope this helped you prepare for your midterms.

📍 This event took place on June 17th, from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at STC 0060, featuring free snacks.

🌳 After 9:00 PM, the club headed out to the Rock Garden to let out a one-minute long scream and distress because of the midterm season.

(NOT) 73 Questions with CSC

📖 Inspired by the iconic 73 Questions Interview videos from Vogue, CSC filmed the (Not) 73 Questions with CSC and posted them on the CSC Instagram. From “When was the last time you cried” to solving math equations, interviewees were asked a series of fun, rapid-fire questions about their student life!

👀 The executives that took on the hot seat were VP Eric Huang and President Juthika Hoque, but be sure to stay tuned to watch a professor take on the challenge!

📣 The first two interviews are still accessible on the CSC Instagram feed, so be sure to watch them and follow along in the (Not) 73 Questions series!
