Hi all! Another month has gone by, and here are some updates of what is
happening in the CSC over the past month.
* Appointment of Office Manager: Tiger Ding is officially appointed as
the office manager for the rest of the term.
* Revision of Office Rules: The office manager and the elected execs
revised the office rules. Office rules are grouped for better
organization, some points are clarified, and irrelevant rules are
removed. Additionally, office staff are expected to take on more of a
moderating role compared to before. For the updated rules, see
https://wiki.csclub.uwaterloo.ca/Office_Policies.
* General Meeting: We hosted another general meeting on November 19th.
During the meeting, we provided updates that has been happening within
the CSC and discussed potential changes to the CSC. You can view the
meeting notes here:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1NcOzj94c8sGj12LbrMSnrblmEW21RzqeiXMWAy5…
* Constitutional Change Discussion: During the general meeting, some
constitutional changes are being discussed.
* Syscom/Termcom Changes: During the meeting, we discussed how we want
to change syscom such that it is controlled by current students, and
termcom such that there is a clear path to promotion to syscom and
additional privileges to practice systems administration. The full draft
for the changes are underway, and if we finish it on time, it can be put
on vote during next term's election.
* Exec Restructure: During the meeting, we also discussed a potential
restructure of the executive team by splitting the VP role into multiple
ones, such that each VP manages a sector of the organizing committee.
However, due to the lack of good justification and support, this change
is tabled. Instead, we will seek other methods to address some issues
we've been seeing with how the CSC is organized, though this change will
likely not happen any time soon.
* Hiring: CSC has begun hiring for next term! If you want to be involved
with the CSC's organization, make sure to apply at
https://csclub.ca/hiring. The deadline for the application is **Sunday,
December 1st**, so make sure to apply ASAP if you haven't done so
already!
* CRO Appointment: We have appointed Iris as our Chief Returning
Officer. She will be the one running the elections next term. More
information regarding the election will come soon.
* Plushies: We are considering making Codey plushies! We would like to
gauge how much demand we have for the plushies. If you are potentially
interested in getting one, make sure to fill out the form here!

* Upcoming Events: It's almost the end of the term, but we still have a
few events that we are organizing! For example, the End-of-Term social
occurs on **Wednesday, December 4th**. Keep an eye on the announcements!
Thank you all for contributing to CSC, whether by being an internal
committee member, or just by participating in CSC activities in general.
Good luck everyone with the end of the term and the exam season!
Hi CSC!
CSC Newsletter is back! After almost two years of inactivity, we are
bringing it back. We will use the CSC Newsletter to bring you updates of
what is happening behind the scenes in order to encourage communication
and improve our transparency. This is something (somewhat new) that we
are trying out, so if you have any feedback regarding the Newsletter,
let us know either by emailing us at exec(a)csclub.uwaterloo.ca, or use
the following link to submit feedback: https://csclub.ca/feedback.
The past month has been a turbulent time for CSC. We will be doing our
best to communicate what has happened over the past month and what we
have been doing.
Here are some major things that has happened over the past month:
* Our previous Systems Administrator, Nathan, resigned at the start of
the month. We have appointed Ohm Patel (o32patel) as our new Systems
Administrator, and this decision was ratified by the members of CSC on
October 8th at the General Meeting.
* Our previous Office Manager, Ivy, resigned near the end of the
month. Right now, we are still in the process of appointing one or more
Office Managers. For now, Tiger, one of our previous Office Managers and
current Office Manager Advisor, is the acting Office Manager until we
officially appoint (a) new Office Manager(s).
And here are some things that we have been working on:
* Issues in the Office: We have been made aware of several issues that
has been happening in the office sometimes, and, to some extent, the
Discord server; mainly, discussion of topics that makes some people
uncomfortable, bullying or shaming people over their identity or small
mistakes they make, and gossiping and rumors about other clubs and
organizations. We are looking into ways to combat these behaviors. So
far, we have been reminding people to be respectful, though no official
policy changes have been made yet. We will discuss with our advisors and
other relevant people on how to best address this behavior and improve
the office environment.
* General Meeting: As mentioned previously, we hosted a General
Meeting on October 8, both for the ratification of the Systems
Administrator and providing an update on what our teams have been
working on. It is likely that we are going to host another General
Meeting some time near the end of the term, with more information to
come. Keep an eye on the announcements for more details!
* Funding: We have been working on sponsorships and collaborations
with other companies and organizations in order to secure funding for
server maintenance, server upgrades, and equipment.
* Hiring: Hiring will begin very soon, and we are still planning the
process for hiring. Tentatively, hiring will open some time in the
middle of November. Keep an eye out on the announcements if you wish to
be involved with the CSC!
* Events: There are a couple of new events coming up! Look out for the
Careers Nights on November 4 and Codeylympics on November 6! We are
planning additional events as well, like Specialization Talk and
Dodgeball Night, so keep an eye out on the announcements for those.
* Transparency and Accountability: We are working hard to make sure
that we are transparent with our actions and accountable to the CSC
body. Because most of us have been busy with our work or school over the
past month, we haven't been the best at communicating our updates, and
we apologize for that. We will continue to provide monthly updates like
this, and if we are hosting another General Meeting, that will be
another opportunity for you to connect with us. We request that you all
hold us accountable, so if you have any questions, concerns, or
feedback, please let us know, either by talking to one of the execs, or
through the anonymous feedback form here: https://csclub.ca/feedback.
* Return of CSC Newsletter: We have recently remembered that this is a
thing, and we haven't used it for almost two years. We are going to try
bringing it back, and bringing our monthly CSC updates on both our
Discord and our newsletter mailing list. Let us know if you have any
feedback using the link above!
